We are in the era of Big Data where empirical studies in economics and business analysis are becoming more crucial. Economic and business models and analytics have become powerful tools in understanding preferences of consumers. Cookie-based advertising may not be the best up-to-date example but it is an undeniable fact that retailers around the world are taking advantage of the data analytics tools in business. The MScDABE programme is built with the aim of equipping students with the skills and knowledge to tackle data analytics problems and complex business challenges in the real world. For instance, in the data-driven decision making course, we had the opportunity to solve some genuine business problems by formulating an innovative solution supported by a data model, producing a comprehensive written report and presenting it to a panel. Moreover, I was introduced to different statistical tools and python coding which set a foundation for performing quantitative analyses of business problems. I also gained an in-depth understanding of various kinds of machine learning models in the big data analytics course. The Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance offers a great amount of online and on-campus resources and tools - my favourite being the data analysis room, where data analytics software is available for qualitative and quantitative analyses. I would highly recommend the MScDABE Programme if you are interested in pursuing a career in or involving data analytics.
